My Successful VBAC STORY:
Hello everyone! I was aiming for VBAC more specifically a water birth or Normal delivery after previous Cesarean on my second baby who have a 12-13 months gap (not sure because I am irregular).
I knew I have to do something different first thing I did is switched doctors. Even though my OB that time was OK with VBAC I did see her really advocating and having the heart to push for VBAC, she is an excellent doctor actually and very sought after as well but I just have a feeling I needed to switch.
So I searched on this group I found DRA. Karen Torredes and we went for a check up. We wanted to try other obs but due to location others are much farther away and I already have my eye on st. Luke’s because I wanted to have a water birth. And they have an available facility. Kahit na high risk pregnancy ka like GD or previous cs. You can inflate a pool on their high risk unit. Through doc Karen I learned na meron din sila pool facility sa high risk pregnancies Kaya I felt I had a chance. Kahit na bumalik ung diabetes ko like my first pregnancy. Kaya di na kami nag switch.
I did not regret kasi I see her guiding me through every step. First assessing me if I’m a good candidate, next telling me head on what I needed to do. Like keep baby weight low since I’m previous GD and exercise, low impact exercises, and she sent me to ultrasound with doctors that she knew was skilled. 29 weeks she told me baby is big na so I need to diet and I stopped carbs and sugar. And continue with my daily walk and 10 min yoga.
Second very crucial step That I am happy happy I took is I got a Doula. I searched and found out who may be available on my due date. Nov 18 or Nov 3. I am so blessed that Doula Velvet Roxas was available on my dates. She is #godsent we talked about my previous experience and she suggested things to avoid the events that happened the first time. Great insight ung increase zinc on my diet para di agad pumutuk ang panubigan.
Ang dami namin natutunan at na realize na Mali namin ginawa the first time around. Like not knowing what to ask the doctor when faced with situations. How to handle hospital staff and how not to give up control to the doctors. We also learned ways to cope with labor and understood the whole birthing process.
Oct 4, 2019
I’m 33 weeks based on my ultrasound
35 weeks based on lmp
I was on my regular check up schedule but previously magrereklamo na ako ng contractions. This time the difference is may fresh blood. (watch how I do my visual birth plan here)
Ung contractions more on pressure and pain sa front NG tiyan coming every 5 mins or so.
So doctora decided I confine ako.
I got confined for almost 6 days.
Given pampastop ng contractions at 4 doses of steroid in case gusto na lumabas ni baby and I was given so many tests and ultrasound.
Ending after we allow baby to contract he decided to stop Kaya uwi kami. Parang nakapag practice tuloy kami.
D DAY – THIS IS IT
Oct 21, 2019
Nagising ako sa contractions coming every 5 mins. Pero Kaya pa ng breathing ung sakit.
Lumabas ako sa Sala namin at nag labor.
I was able to get some sleep around 5am to 7am
Corner beef and rice.
I texted my Doula the screenshot of my contractions monitoring and she advised me to get as much rest as possible
I tried to sleep through the contractions. Around 10 am to 11am pa unti unting idlip
KFC chicken lunch
Then I tried to sleep again.
Kaya naligo na ako and told Dada we should go sa hospital.
We arrived at the hospital
Contractions are 2 mins apart and di na gumagana ung breathing walking at affirmation to deal with the surges. I called na my Doula.
My Doula arrived shortly after us.
Initial ie 6cm dilated 70% effaced
After 30 mins
My water broke when I tried to sit down for the fetal monitor. Parang gush of water na pumutok Tapos nag trickle.
7cm dilated 80% effaced.
After I got in the birth pool I had no time monitoring na kasi I requested no wall clock sa room at no one to update me on the time. So para akong nag stand still. OK xa momsh bawas pressure at nakakapag concentrate ako 1 contraction at a time.
Next thing that happened may cervical lip ako na bumabara sa daanan ni baby. So I did lunges sa cr.
Then Labor ulit.
I was 8 cm dilated then I have the urge to push
I still feel the urge to bear down hanggang sa nawala ung contractions.
Then Doula Velvet approached me and encouraged me to change temperature so I just stood up sa pool and walked around. Then I walked around outside sa pool.
Then Doc came in to check me using the birthing bed.
Biglang naging busy ung room at andami nilang priniprepare.
They asked me if I want to get back to the pool.
Who happen to be getting some stuff from the car. Dali Dali syang umakyat.
I don’t know how long we were pushing pero parang di nag tagal.
Binigay agad sa akin si baby at as per my birth plan delayed lahat ng tests nya. Kaya skin to skin kami, iniwan ung vernix sa skin nya at nag breast feed agad kami.
Kay doc had to repair.
Bale from the time nasa hospital kami at baby is out. 5 hours and 37 mins.
Total labor and birthing time from 2am is 17 hours and 37 minutes.
Baby Rain Parker was born
3125 grams and 48 cms
Very healthy baby boy
My doctor declared him 37 weeks and 1 day.
Based on lmp Kaya di na kami nag NICU.
Totoo talaga momsh, you need support and all the help you can. Kaya choose your team well, be assertive sa gusto mong mangyari, receive help because you deserve it and you are not expected to do all things alone., in God’s Grace talaga and proper planning and listening to ur body you can achieve ur dream birth as well.
To you who is reading this, I was in the exact same position before. And I am telling you yes it’s possible.
